Michael said One of the female heros in my life has to be my 11th grade typing teacher. She was a business visionary that convinced me that my lofty goals to be a successful business person would easier to pursue if I knew how to type. She was a great salesperson that knew how to leverage features and benefits. The feature, "Mike you will be in a class where you are the only male" The benefit was obvious. What she really taught me over the next two years was how to handle myself as a professional. Today all kids learn "keyboarding". In 1978 I learned much more than QWERTY. It laid the foundation for years of successful interaction with female business professionals.
Gina said My hero is my mother, Ann. I remember being 8 years old, declaring to her that I was the most uncool kid in second grade because I looked absolutely nothing like Tiffany or Leah or Jamie, and hearing her say to me, very slowly: “Of course not. You look like you. Why does the second grade need two Tiffanys, or two Leahs, or two Jamies? You were never meant to look like anyone else but you.” It’s words like these that I heard from her as a child—and continue to hear from her—that give me the courage to be the real me in life, and in business.
